For World Book Day this year I was invited to talk to our local nursery school about telling stories through words and how many different things go into making a picture book.

It was great fun and the children were really engaged. We used some of my illustrations to guess what might be happening and make up stories about the characters depicted then talked about all the things in our lives which have been designed and drawn by illustrators.

We talked about working together with authors and what sort of expressions can help us know what a character is feeling even without being able to read the words.

By the end of our talk the children were all excited to draw their own books and spent the next while showing them to me and asking me to write the words so grownups would understand too.

All in all a really fun morning!
